Flushing

I read somewhere that arrhythmia can cause flushing. Is this true?

Yes it is true, at least for me

Yes, Penguin, sudden episodes of tachycardia can certainly cause flushing for me.  High heart rates can trigger volatile surging blood pressure too.

On occasions in the past, I thought I was going to have a stroke with these sudden strong head surges/flushes.  It came to a head one day while we were travelling on the London Undergound. I lost consciousness transiently multiple times and felt as though I was having mini strokes.  We had to get off the tube and call an ambulance.

AF was diagnosed in the ambulance but I recall I was extremely unstable and feared for my life, not knowing what was going on.  These are a thing of the past now on a low dose beta blocker that keeps my AF with a rapid ventricular response rate, under firm control.

Of course flushing can have many causes including gastric ones, so if these are new for you, you should speak to your doctors Penguin.  I hope all is well

Thank you

Thanks Gemita. Symptoms are nowhere near as serious as those you describe. Doesn't seem worth troubling a GP.

I hadn't thought of a gastric cause, and I've practically ruled out most other obvious causes. I'll monitor and see if there are any obvious gastric or cardiac triggers.  I keep thinking that the heating has come on due to the drop in temperature every evening during this cold spell we're having but the radiators are always cold when I check and (to date) there's been no link to food / drink that is obvious.  A diary usually helps so I'll do that first. I'm certainly not collapsing or in pain.

Thank you x

Besides keeping a food journal, you might note what you were doing at the time of your flush and the time.  Then compare with your transmission.   I know when i feels something different have sent  an email or called the pacemaker clinic to see if something had been recorded.  Most times nothing shows up.

That's good advice too. I'll do that.

Thank you.
